Origins of K&N
Founded in the early sixties in California, K&N gained its name from its two founders – Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald. Selling motorcycles and racing in the Californian sunshine, K&N soon realised that there was a big need for air filters that could perform at the highest level and protect the vehicle’s engine. By 1969, K&N had come up with the high-flow, reusable cotton filter – the precursor to their filters of today.
Putting their filters to the test on the desert motocross scene, K&N realised they had something special. Their unique design was amazing at keeping destructive sand from engines, and also provided amazing cooling and performance boosts at the same time. The performance, protection and durability that these filters had would one day become the hallmarks of K&N, making them the best performance filters on the market.
Through the decades, the company grew and grew, constantly expanding their products lines and reputation. By the 1980’s, K&N had their latest innovation in the bag – bolt-on performance filters that replaced stock air boxes and filters in one fell swoop.
K&N grew and grew, today providing performance filters and other kits for cars, motorcycles, vans, trucks, SUV’s, industrial vehicles and more. What’s more, through it all K&N kept their close ties to motorsport across all of its forms, supporting championship teams and helping them to be the best.
K&N brings this pedigree to every single kit they produce.
K&N, because they believe in maintaining quality of design and producing the best, have their own factory facilities in California, England and the Netherlands.
The California complex consists of ten buildings, covering 400,000 square feet. K&N operates its own design, manufacturing, customer service and warehousing departments, as well as operating their own testing facilities. Every kit finds itself tested under the most extreme conditions, so you can be sure that a K&N kit will perform when you need it the most.
Keeping every part of the business – from design to the moment a kit leaves the building, enables K&N to maintain unrivalled quality control and customer service. Every part of every kit, from the nuts and bolts on up come direct from K&N. By doing it this way, K&N can never pass the buck when it comes to quality and performance.
K&N produce everything in-house because they want to make the very best on the market and pass this on to you.
K&N seeks to keep improving and making the best filtration systems available on the market. This means products that give high performance, the best quality and durability. It also means always ensuring that customers always receive the best filtration solutions available on the market.
K&N is synonymous with the best and the aim is to ensure that the K&N brand always meets and surpasses the high-water mark already set.
